History of ‘Medjugorje Centre North East’ Pilgrimage to Medjugorje.
· During a visit to Medjugorje in the early 1980’s Sylvia Carruthers a local N.E. Travel Representative was invited by local families to return and bring friends to this place of ‘miracles’ and ‘peace’ thus began the Pilgrimages from the North East of England. · 1989 Medjugorje Centre North East was developed, facilitating Pilgrims, Priests & Religious to experience Medjugorje as a Living Shrine. · The Spiritual Direction given by the Priests accompanying the pilgrims is of great value and strength, focusing and guiding our thoughts and prayers on Our Lady’s Messages. · 1992 – 1995 War Bosnian/Croatian (former Yugoslavia) halted normal flights to The Balkans. · 1995 - 1997 In conjunction with Harry Dixon of Medjugorje Peace Tours, Surrey and near the end of the war, the Annual Pilgrimage was resumed organised by Kelvin Keddy of the Medjugorje Centre N E who negotiated a direct flight from Newcastle to Split. · 1997 – 2006 Sylvia Carruthers of North East Centre resumed her role as Pilgrimage Organiser. · 2007 --The role was then taken up by Marian Fletcher who organised a very successful Pilgrimage in 2007 and continues in the role of Pilgrimage Organiser for 2008.
We look forward to the continuation of the Pilgrimages from the North East working in conjunction with Harry Dixon of Medjugorje Peace Tours. |
